Artificial Intelligence: The Good, The Bad and the Ugly

What makes the recent breakthroughs in AI so controversial? Why are some people completely against it, while others highly favor it? Is it good or bad for us, and why? AI has been a recent topic of discussion lately, and for good reason. AI has been deemed a matter of grave concern by some as well. Why exactly is this? Well, AI can be a problem because it risks the human loss of skills. If we get Artificial Intelligence to do everything for us, we might forget how to do things over time. For instance, if I used a chatbot to write this whole thing for me, I would lose my writing skills and would no longer be considered a writer anymore. Secondly, authenticity and quality of work is also at stake. It's obvious - AI can't do everything perfectly. Let's put it this way; AI could be considered a computer algorithm designed by humans, for humans. So, in the end, we humans really are the ones behind it after all. The full potential of AI has not yet been reached, meaning it cannot and does not have the ability to make it's very own decisions yet, or become an individualist and maverick off the code that it's been assigned. If I used AI to write this whole thing for me, this article might sound kind of weird - you could tell that it was AI generated. Telling apart an AI's work from human work may seem like an easy feat today, but in a world where the knowledge of Artificial Intelligence grows at lightspeed, it could be a lot harder to differentiate reality from AI generation. AI could be used for negative things, and as a tool available to most humans who walk the face of planet Earth, it could be utilized into anything. It could be used in evil ways to generate fake articles that spread false rumors and ensue chaos, or maybe as a good thing, to help engage in mental-health boosting conversations or help create posters for your local community.

All in all, Artificial Intelligence can be considered good or bad, depending on the cause it's being used for. Whatever the case, it is certainly thriving. How healthy is it for humanity? Well, it may be too early to jump to conclusions, but time will tell.
