For years, we have been asking the same question, over and over again. What exactly is technology? Technology is such a broad concept that it's actually quite difficult to explain it all. Nevertheless, in this guide, we'll (hopefully) cover all things tech. Around 3.3 million years ago, humans began using stone tools. This was an extremely important milestone for those early humans. In fact, it might even serve as the building block for what we are today. You might be thinking: "We used rocks. What's so great about that?". Well, the thing that makes this moment so impactful on history is that it is known as the beginning of technology. Like a toddler taking its very first steps, we taught ourselves and built our own materials, making use of the resources that the Earth provides us.
I want you to close your eyes for a moment, and imagine technology. If you're like most people, you probably thought of an image of, say, a computer. Something modern like that. However, technology isn't just code, screens, and digitalization. Like the example we covered earlier technology can be something as simple as using knowledge to build stone tools. If you don't believe me, search up the dictionary definition of technology. Do it, right now. See? Told you. Technology is such a huge topic and covers such a large range of things, that it can be confusing to know what it is. I know it seems like a simple question, but what is technology? After all, people would just imagine cell phones as tech. In fact, most people don't even know the exact definition of technology. Someone might stare at a cardboard box for 25 minutes and go "Oh, that's not technology.", when in reality, it's a cardboard box, but also a piece of technology. If you go to Google and look at 'technology images' you'll find many digital screens, computers, and even phones, but probably nothing even virtually close to a cardboard box or a stone tool. So far, we've proved to you that technology is muchly, much, much more than cameras and radios, and that the real definition of technology is the application of knowledge to a practical field, whatever the matter. Now, let's go back to some history. Anyways, as I was saying, 3.3 million years ago, early humans started using tools made of stone in order to assist themselves in their daily lives. These stone tools were discovered in Kenya. They appeared to be used to crack nuts or prepare meat. Then, in 6000 BCE, fire was used. Once again, a new example of technology. And I could tell you the rest, but the list goes on and on and on and on and on and on - well, you get the idea. We would be here all day and night. So, the next time you're with your friends near an everyday item, like a recliner, or a fire, tell them that it is technology! (Actually, don't do that; it would sound kind of weird.)
