Tesla unveiled a new robot, and it still is disappointing. Obviously nothing compared to the standards of Boston Dynamics. Nevertheless, the android boasts flexible hands, and a lightweight body system. Plus, it can... carry eggs. I know. Well, at least it's an improvement from the last one.
Tesla has released this robot with the goal of replacing human workers. However, that goal seems a long way off. After all, while Atlas from Boston Dynamics is doing backflips, Optimus is still learning how to fold a T-shirt.
Yes, we watched till the end as well. The video concludes with two of the robots doing quirky dance moves and club music in the background.
The company asserts that Optimus Gen 2 can walk 30 percent faster and is 22 pounds lighter than its predecessor. (Which isn't much of a surprise; Bumble C strolling down the stage was like watching an elephant on its hind legs.) Particular attention has been given to the robot's nimble hands, equipped with tactile sensors on each fingertip for precise object handling (Proven in the video with Optimus holding eggs). Elon Musk deems this project crucial for Tesla, expressing confidence that Optimus will contribute significantly to the company's long-term value. While Musk's predictions are often met with skepticism, he envisions the robot costing less than $20,000 each and gradually replacing production staff in Tesla's factories. Still, it's coming from Elon Musk. Don't take it as a promise. He also said Tesla is able to mass-produce these once they're ready to be released and sold. All in all, Optimus still has a lot to improve before it can fully perform your boring tasks for you. Plus, I think we can't deny the fact that it definitely looks sleek. With lights surrounding the face, it looks like it came out of a movie.
